I was born in a country that no longer exists and felt at home in my dreams

Our earliest memories often appear as tender recollections—childhood shaped by joy, family, and simplicity. Yet these moments are rarely untouched by complexity. With time and distance, we begin to notice the distortions: fragments shaped not only by experience, but by the stories we told ourselves to make sense of it all. As neuroscientist Rosalind Cartwright once wrote, "Memory is never a precise duplicate of the original... it is a continuing act of creation."

This photographic series revisits childhood through the lens of adult understanding, weaving personal history with collective memory. It reflects on the dissonance between what we believed and what was, recalibrating past narratives in dialogue with historical context.
